Ierapetra, is situated in the south coast of the island, just opposite Sitia. The town has a population of 12 000 inhabitants. Ierapetra’s ressources are its vegetable farming. The town is the Queen of Tomatoes and Cucumbers that you will find in the delicious Cretan Salad. You could see its farming in the West of the city in the shape of big greenhouses which are not very nice in the landscape but which, I hope so, are good for our health.
Have a walk in the small old district of Ierapetra, with low houses and narrow streets. You will also find a Venetian Fortress.
Ierapetra seems to have been forgotten by tourists, so, this is a quiet place. The town is also the starting point for numerous visits and treks to the south coast of the Island of Crete.
