Lemnos is the cradle of one of the most ancient city of the Mediterranean World along with the city of Troy.
A city dating from the 3rd millennium before J.C. has been revealed in the North-East of the Island.
Poliochni keeps much earlier traces of human conquering (- 5 000 years before J.C.) and there are different kinds of artifacts which give evidence of important manufacturing and local trade (stone ax, first metal objects…) at that time.
We advise you to go and visit the site, it is worth it (and after your visit, you could enjoy the beaches further South and have a bath…).
Other sites of hunters-gatherers are excavated near Moudros (Ouriakos and Fyssini) .
